The article focuses on the publication of the first "OnlineOpen" papers of the "Geophysical Journal International" in 2006. "OnlineOpen is a pay-to-publish service that offers authors of accepted papers the opportunity to pay up-front for their manuscript to become open access via the Blackwell Synergy web site. The article will be available to all for viewing and download free of charge.
