Abstract

The article reports on the use of handheld computers by Federal census takers rather than pens and papers to automate collection of census data in the United States. The project is planned to hit the streets in 2010 with a 600 million dollar budget, rolling out around 500,000 devices. The U.S. Census Bureau plans to buy the handhelds and related technology from Harris Corp.
