Abstract
- The article focuses on the arrival of Ib Poulsen and Carlos Ziebell, leaders of Greenland's sledge patrol, on the Eskimo settlement of Scoresby Sound in Greenland on April 30, 1943 to defend the area against German forces. The sledge patrol troops asked the U.S. forces to send them an aircraft and a machine gun. Poulsen knew that the capture of Lieutenant Hermann Ritter, commander of the German expedition, would lead to the attack of Scoresby Sound by the Germans to save their troop commander. Germans continued to attack the U.S. Coast Guard ships with its weather-reconnaissance planes.
