Abstract
- The article discusses the concept of the child on the word in text. It has been suggested that the ability of the child to match spoken words to written words while reading plays a pivotal role in early reading development, based from recent examinations of this phenomenon. The author summarizes the research on the concept of word from children, relates to developing phoneme awareness, and describes some instructional recommendations to be used by teachers to assist emergent readers.
