Abstract

The article reports that a group of approximately 20 business owners in Hempstead, New York plan to close their businesses on Monday, May 1, 2006 in order to join the boycott taking place across the U.S. in support of amnesty for illegal immigrants. The author suggests that Americans are boycotting commerce, work, and school in order to raise awareness about immigrants' impact on the U.S. economy. Immigration bills which are being considered by Congress are discussed.
