Abstract

The article reports on the results of a study conducted by the SANS Institute, security training and research firm in a Bethesda, Maryland. The study has found out that there is a significant increase in the number of flaws discovered in the Apple Computer Inc.'s operating system Mac OS X. The Mac OS X may soon be as prone to malicious attacks as the Microsoft Corp.'s Windows because of insufficient computer security it provide to users. But the study has also reveled that the Mac OS X is still safer compared to Windows because of its smaller installed base which makes it less prone to hackers. It also showed that there are 52 vulnerabilities found in Mac OS X in 2005 and 17 this 2006. Moreover, Firefox Communications Ltd.'s browser is still safer than Microsoft Corp.'s Internet explorer.
