Abstract

The article reports on a research conducted by the National League of Cities to determine the approaches used by municipal governments to reduce poverty and promote equity in the United States. The research interviewed city officials on their use of equity agendas to improve the quality of life for residents of low-income communities. The cities can take actions to increase employment, reduce blight, improve the living standards of the poor and empower the citizens in the equitable allocation of resources.
