Abstract

The author reflects on the idea of Joel Robbins on the relationship between ritual and linguistic ideology. The author thinks that although Robbins often seems to endorse American anthropologist Roy A. Rappaport's perspective on the capacity of ritual to nullify the threats of language, Robbins also seems to demur, as, when he points out that Rappaport's account of ritual fits particularly neatly with the views of some cultures but not all of them.
