The author reflects on the idea of author Joel Robbins on the relationship between ritual and linguistic ideology. He supports the suggestion of Robbins on the necessity for an anthropological study of understanding speech. Moreover, it is sensible, to investigate the relation between people's ideas about language and their ideas about ritual because, provided one supposes that it is meant to mean, ritual can always be rendered meaningful and thus communicative.
