Abstract

The article focuses on the decline in the graduation rate among Black students in New York City. Numerous studies reveal that the college graduation rate for Black students is extremely low in comparison to white students. The percentage of Black students graduating from college, within a six-year period, was only 38% in 1999, whereas white students' graduation rate was nearing 60%. When compared to Black men, the college graduation rate for Black women climbed steadily over the years. Black men are least likely to stay in and graduate from college, in comparison to other groups, nationwide. One of the reasons behind the decline is that Black men are not motivated to continue their educational career.
