Abstract

The article describes a group of HIV-positive persons with liver disease of unknown origin, in which extensive studies were performed to rule out potential known causes of liver damage. Liver biopsy and/or elastography were used to assess the stage of liver fibrosis. The study shows that cryptogenic liver disease is an uncommon condition in HIV-positive persons and might be associated with prolonged didanosine antiretroviral exposure.
