Abstract

The article reports that researchers at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, New York have developed a method to synthesize cerium oxide nanotubes of high quality. The researchers allow cerium nitrate and ammonia hydroxide to react chemically to form one-dimensional nanostructures made of the intermediate product cerium hydroxide. The cerium oxide nanotubes can be used as catalysts in vehicle emission-control systems and fuel cells.
