Abstract

The article presents information on the protest that had taken place in Holy Cross primary school at Ardoyne Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In June 2002, sectarian violence erupted in Belfast which targeted the children in the school. Loyalist protesters threw stones, urine-filled balloons and pornography at children on their way to the school. By, 2004, the protest was suspended and normality has slowly been creeping back in. In lieu of taking the protest back, the protesters demanded a financial package for the run-down neighborhood, a Protestant enclave in a nationalist area. Another demand was that the Catholic Holy Cross pupils and their parents should not walk to school up the Loyalist Ardoyne Road.
