Abstract

The article discusses the introduction of the new version of Linux operating systems for cellular telephones and pocket personal computers. It is developed by some mobile phone makers and service providers such as Motorola Inc. and NEC Corp. as an alternative to the mobile phone's commonly used operating system from Symbian Ltd. and Microsoft Corp., which both cost money to licence. The use of open source software could attract developers that provide benefits to customers and equipment makers.
