Abstract

Descriptive information on the deep-sea Southern Ocean ophidioid Holcomycteronus brucei is limited to the holotype, and the species of the genus Holcomycteronus are poorly known. During the international ICEFISH cruise of 2004 a specimen was collected west of South Georgia in 2,705–2,721 m. A third, unreported specimen collected south of Tasmania in 2,840–3,001 m was located after the cruise. These specimens are described and compared to other nominal species of Holcomycteronus pending a generic review. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
