Abstract

This article discusses South Korea's relationship with North Korea and Japan in the wake of the firing of seven missiles toward the Sea of Japan by North Korea's Kim Jong Il. South Korea has pursued a "sunshine policy" toward North Korea and, instead, is criticizing Japan for igniting tensions in the region. South Korea's policy hides its deep concerns over the incident and it will suspend food and fertilizer shipments to North Korea. Continuing tensions among the three countries and the U.S. concerning North Korea are discussed.
