Abstract

The article focuses on the rise in the school violence in Great Britain in 2005. School violence in and around schools have risen by 73 percent in a year, with most of the cases reported to be from the urban suburbs. Incidents related to the use of guns have nearly doubled from 45 to .87, with shots fired in 39 cases. Incidents involving knives accounted for 239 attacks, compared with 160 in 2003-2004, and the use of other weapons such as baseball bats and bicycle chains rose from 180 to 341. Neighborhood gangs also contributed to the rise of violence on school campuses, with 17.4 percent of recorded weapons due to gang rivalries or disputes over drugs.
