Abstract

The article focuses on the formation of the State Graduation Policies in the U.S. Policymakers are looking for ways to increase graduation rates. There is a recognition that a high school diploma should show command of knowledge and skills which will prepare students for life. The six states Iowa, Colorado, Michigan, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Pennsylvania leave their most of the decisions about course-credit demands to their local school districts. Two others states, North Dakota and Nebraska designate the total number of course credits which are required, but they do not confine expectations for credits in specific subjects.
