Asymmetric Mandibular Dysplasia Due to In Utero Compression.

The article presents a case of an asymmetric mandibular dysplasia in a newborn due extrinsic compression of the jaw by the infant's shoulder. Examination revealed a severe right-sided head deviation that had been present for an extended period of time in utero. Also, there was lack of subcutaneous tissue and a prominent sternocleidomastoid muscle. Findings suggest that mandibular asymmetry is usually the result of the shoulder being raised up under the mandible as a consequence of breech of prolonged vertex presentation.
