Abstract

The article reports that Venezuelan state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA is cutting production to fund social programs as world demand for oil rises. President Hugo Chávez is running the company to best benefit the Venezuelan people, which cuts down on oil output to wealthier countries desperate for energy.
