Abstract: The article presents a comparison between the operating systems (OS), the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, also known as Dapper Drake, and Microsoft's latest Vista build, 5472. The release of Dapper Drake, which is intended to compete with Linux distributions, was postponed for six weeks for final primping. The release of the Vista was also delayed. The Ubuntu OS was built with the Debian GNU/Linux foundation while the Vista appears to be less a foundation of growth. The Vista's advantage of being able to work better with Microsoft's applications and protocols compared to rivals is discussed.
