Abstract

The paper offers a reading of different perspectives on environmental matter from an epistemological level, which allows to identify the conceptual system that has conceived ecological problems as "perturbations", coming to the "sustained development" perspective as a utopy emerging from modernity project. It is stated that the modern vision of science, which had as its main goals both objectiveness and accuracy, has separated the observer form the observed and man from nature, transforming science, thus, in a merely technological and instrumental activity. Reflections derived form that analysis make possible to argue that it is the way in which we have perceived things and stated our questions what has circumscribed ecological catastrophes to perverse --non desired-- effects of a developing model, when it is precisely the way of reasoning and constructing knowledge what has taken to an unnecessary depredation. This takes us to the recognition of the need to restart the discussion about a natural contract beyond the social contract established in the beginning of modernity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
