Abstract

The article presents the views of the author on former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. The author tells that Lincoln had no intention of ending the institution of slavery when he entered the White House. His sole aim was to save the Union. However his role as emancipator dominates the public's perception of him. Though Lincoln was appreciated for performance as commander in chief during the Civil War, his military appointments and decisions contributed substantially to military bumbling that prolonged the war.
