Abstract

The article discusses the trend in via ferrata climbing in the U.S. Via ferrata is a European discipline in which climbing routes are equipped with ladders, bolts and fixed cables. The technique is a way for a new climber to be able to climb high in the mountains. The pastime is popular in Europe with hundreds of routes in the Alps, but there are less than 10 via ferrata climbing areas in the U.S. and Canada. U.S. and British Columbian via ferrata locations are given.
