Abstract

This article reports on the efforts by colleges and universities to recruit more American Indian students to higher education, as they only make up 1 percent of the population of college student. Highlighted are the recent efforts by Syracuse University which has a spotted history with the Haudenosaunee nation, on whose lands the institution was built. They have created scholarships that will pay for students from the Haudenosaunee tribes as well as students living in tribes in Canada's Six Nations. Students must be fully enrolled and have a 2.5 grade point average. INSET: American Indian Students in Academe.
