Do you need the sharpest pencils?

In this article the author offers advice to the thousands of newly qualified teachers beginning the new school year, 2006-07, in Great Britain. He advises them to set realistic goals for themselves and not to become concerned with schools and teaching to the exclusion of everything else. He suggests that they observe the methods used by seasoned teachers and take courses outside of school to supplement their knowledge and skills.
