NINE CAUTIONARY TALES.

The article presents nine terrorism scenarios and the possible role of technology in preventing them. Terrorism scenarios presented include atomic bombing of Hong Kong, sabotaging electric substations and transmission towers in New York City, blowing up of oil refineries and scattering of anthrax virus in malls during the Christmas shopping season. Possible ways of carrying out the attacks are analyzed as well as the likelihood of each scenario taking place, the degree of difficulty in carrying out the attacks, the resulting casualties and damage to the economy. Technological solutions to prevent the scenarios from happening are also evaluated.
