Wetlands and Drinking Water: A Natural Connection.

The article discusses the 1972 Clean Water Act, which set a national standard for protecting all of the United States' waters, including wetlands. Ever since the law was enacted, land developers have tried unsuccessfully to urge Congress to gut the wetlands protections in the law so they could build on critical marshlands without restraint, attempts that were deterred by environmental protection groups. But decisions by the United States Supreme Court have confused the issue of wetland protection, which could possibly lead to the pollution of the nation's drinking water.
