Abstract

The article focuses on the developments in speech technologies which are enhanced by advances in computers in the U.S. Such technologies are observed to be moving far beyond call centers and into critical corporate applications such as search and security. The development of the VoiceXML markup language to create open standard voice interfaces has been driving the market for speech technologies. Speech-recognition applications fall into three broad categories which are communications, search and interaction. INSET: HAL Will Be Here A Little Later.
