Abstract: The article discusses the possible implications of the October 2006 murder conviction of Martin R. Heidgen who was tried in connection with a drunk driving accident which killed two people. In most cases, deaths caused by intoxicated drivers result in manslaughter or reckless homicide convictions; therefore, Heidgen's murder conviction brings drunk driving penalties to a new level and may be helpful in deterrence efforts.
