Abstract

In contrast to other political movements, Spanish Anarchism was characterized by a great interest in education and culture as the main tools for personal and social change. Spanish anarchists believed that social revolution was impossible without an anarchist education (a free, cooperative and fraternal education). And indeed, such education did exist in Spanish anarchist collectives in the thirties, when conditions were favourable. Anarchists promoted, in hundreds of Spanish villages, anarchist education in order to bring about the radical transformation of society. In this paper I analyze the processes involved.
