This article deals with the management of local collections from the point of view of those who manage it and those they are managed for, on the one hand, and how they are managed and preserved, on the other. These issues are examined briefly and are accompanied by bibliographic references serving as guidelines to follow when contemplating the creation or revamping of a local collection.
