Abstract

The article looks at the effect of education on poverty with new studies suggesting that children born into poor families in the United States have a smaller chance of rising out of poverty than their counterparts in other industrialized nations. Particular focus is given to a volume of papers published by the Brookings Institution that explores education's potential for increasing intergenerational mobility. Research from the study is provided along with theories on curbing class disparity.
