Abstract
- The article discusses the circumstances and background that led to the establishment of the so-called Native Location Commission in the Transvaal in 1881. The guidelines, constraints and internal dynamics of the Native Location Commission is outlined. One of the most important guidelines laid down for the functioning of the Location Commission was a standard for determining the size of the African areas to be allocated.
