Abstract: This article reports on the protests by Australian academics and university librarians about the forced removal of books on terrorism from a restricted section of the Melbourne University library. The Council of Australian University Librarians warned that academic freedom and the capacity of Australia to respond to terrorism had been put at risk by the ban.
