Abstract
- The author focuses on the implications of the 2006 midterm elections for the 2008 presidential election. The early preparations of U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona for a presidential run are discussed. Both McCain and another Republican contender, Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, have courted conservatives in a variation of the strategy of Karl Rove. However, Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was reelected as governor of California by reaching out in a nondivisive manner.
