Abstract
- The article discusses the need to address the issues of underachievement and disadvantage among Great Britain's poorest children. To improve the life chances of the children, institutional and professional leadership, curriculum offered, involvement of parents and funding are necessary. The General Teaching Council for England believes that the criterion for school expansion or change of status should be whether such developments will improve the attainment and well-being of all children.
