Abstract

The article discusses the problem of snake bite envenoming, an important health hazard in many regions particularly in tropical and subtropical countries. It is claimed that public health authorities have given little attention to the problem, which led envenoming to the category of a major neglected disease of the 21st century. The species of the family Elapidae and Viperidae inflict the most severe cases of snake bite envenoming.
