Abstract
- The article considers the controversies surrounding the abortion pill mifepristone. Pro-choice groups are supporting studies on the drug's potential use to treat depression, cancer or reproductive system disorders. Mifepristone was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for abortions in September 2000 despite objections from anti-abortion groups and politicians. The FDA gave the drug a Phase 4 classification as a concession to the anti-abortion movement.
