Abstract
- The article presents a study concerning the effectiveness of thrombolysis in treating patients with submassive pulmonary embolism. A cost effective analysis was performed to compare the health effects and treatment costs of alteplase with heparin sodium against heparin alone in thermodynamically stable patients with pulmonary embolism and right ventricular dysfunction. It was concluded in the study that thrombolysis may be cost-effective in selected subgroups of hemodynamically stable patients.
