Abstract

The author discusses William Shakespeare's use of Dante Alighieri's "La Divina Commedia" in his play "Macbeth." The author explores that availability of textual sources and evidence of general knowledge of "Commedia" during Shakespeare's lifetime. The author also explores the likelihood that Shakespeare was literate in Italian.
