La "falocedad" de continuos: salud reproductiva entre los adolescentes de Oaxaca de Juárez.

This paper explores adolescent sexual health in Oaxaca. I examine the meanings of sexual initiation, popular and biomedical beliefs and practices associated with a distinction between male to female sexualities. In particular the paper compares medicalized discourses related to notions of modernity and sexuality with widely held ideas as to the cultural particularities of young men in Mexico overall as well as in specific regions of Oaxaca. Young men and women in Oaxaca are born into established systems of sexual health, courtship, and sexualities. These adolescents understand their sexualities to be limited by cultural and material factors including respect to modern discourses on sexuality, as well as false ideas about virile continuums positing inherently different sexual desires and behavior among men and women.
