Abstract

This article discusses how the U.S. Congress will scrutinize drug advertising aimed at consumers. Congress will be considering the renewal of the user fee which allows pharmaceutical companies to speed up the review process. Adding an additional user fee to pay for more U.S. Food and Drug Administration employees to evaluate consumer drug ads may also be considered. One important issue concerns the waiting period before drug manufacturers can begin advertising.
