Abstract
- Literature on management, work and organizational psychology commonly shows a positive influence of both teamwork and work teams on both the psychosocial needs and the organizational outcome. However, such overrepresentation of optimistic outputs might not realistically reflect the consequences of teamwork implementation to organizations, groups and individuals. This paper explores the many difficulties associated with teamwork implementation, specifically those difficulties linked to the restructuring of both power and work organization. This manuscript also examines individual resistances associated to teamwork-driven organizational change. This paper does not question teamwork potential in terms of achieving individual, group and organizational goals, but its effectiveness when adequate structure, training, management and support are missing. A more critical approach to the costs and benefits of teamwork implementation would allow a better use of work teams in organizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
