Abstract

The article reports that Britain's white male students from poor backgrounds are falling further behind academically than their Black and Asian peers, according to a breakdown of the 2006 General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) results. The Conservative party and teachers' unions are concerned that a lack of support for these boys could boost racist groups such as the British National Party (BNP). John Bangs, of the National Union of Teachers, calls for grants for poor white students.
