Abstract: The article discusses the importance of industry-academic partnerships to drug development. Translational research in academia is being extended beyond the traditional involvement in clinical trials to the early phases of the drug discovery process. There also have been examples of successful partnership between education and industry which illustrate the ways in which they can enable the discovery of new medicines.
