Abstract
- The article reports that some reef fish species determine the odor of their natal reef and could find its way back home using those odor. Biologists Gabriele Gerlach and Jelle Atema of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, tested the homing ability of three species of reef fish living on the reefs of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The results suggest that the unidentified odors could guide larval fishes to their home reef.
