Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the psychiatric illness and virologic response of patients initiating highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). HAART-naive patients initiating HAART at an academic medical center were assigned a predicted probability from 0 to 1 of having substance use disorder, clinical depression, and alcohol and drug abuses. Results showed that higher predicted probability of psychiatric disorder was associated with slower rate of virologic suppression.
