Abstract

The article describes the osteoclast-forming suppressive compounds from Makomatake, Zizania latifolia infected with Ustilago esculenta. According to the authors, osteoclasts play a role in bone resorption, and abnormal acceleration of osteoclast formation is one of the causes of osteoporosis. During the screening for the osteoclast-formation suppressive effects of extracts of various foodstuffs, strong activity in an extract of Makomotake was demonstrated.
