Abstract

This article discusses school principals in New York City during January of 2007. The article notes that some schoolteachers are actually earning more money than their school principals or assistant principals that supervise them, due to teachers union contracts and tenure. New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has promised to give school principals an increased role in the school system hierarchy, though it remains to be seen whether this will lead to wage increases.
